ABOUT THE ARTIST: Geoff Tuttle’s work is an extension of his keen sense of intellectual curiosity and his fascination with constructing mechanical and electronic devices that feel subversively confrontational, yet elegantly reserved. Geoff describes his work as “developing a subjective ideology regarding the preservation of individuality in an increasingly homogeneous social environment.” Inspired by the European Art/Political movement of the 1960’s, Dada and Surrealism, his electrical pathways and mechanical constructs are investigations of social restrictions, power structures, notions of justice, happiness, and satisfaction that suggest an aesthetic kinship with film and literary masterpieces such as Brazil, Clockwork Orange, 1984 and Fail-safe. In fact, among Geoff Tuttle’s list of notable accomplishments is his work as set designer for the cult science fiction film, The American Astronaut. Geoff holds an MFA degree in Sculpture from Stanford University and a BFA from San Francisco Art Institute. |
