Artist Statement

I use sound as a sculptural element, to occupy and define space. I seek to make the sounds unidentifiable, to filter out potential expectations, and more directly address the audience’s perceptions.

In the “Infrastructure” soundscape I use silence, repetition, and variation with two sets of intersecting, overlapping, and colliding stereo “fields” to provide a continuously evolving sonic environment.

The compositional elements are derived from the sound of shattering light bulbs. The original recordings have been altered in both time and texture. The manipulated sounds of the destroyed light bulbs serve as ghostly companions from the afterworld of these objects.
